Will the “Knowledge Corridor” Rail Project Benefit Your Business, Property, or Municipality?
As a result of $316 million federal ARRA (American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009) grants, the states of Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Vermont have begun transforming the former Connecticut River Rail Line into the high-speed “Knowledge Corridor.” While most attention has been paid to potential passenger service, the more immediate benefits from this significant capital improvement will be for improved freight services. Also, slightly longer-range, is the potential for transit-oriented development (TOD), which is primary housing but includes mixed uses.
Businesses, property owners, and municipalities located along the “Knowledge Corridor” rail line (or connected to it by branch or spur) need up-to-date, accurate information to be able to assess the potential benefits of including in- and out-bound rail and TOD as part of their planning.
